wisly jasmin - agronomist
farming is an art and a science
Wisly Jasmin is the Lead Agronomist and Agricultural Director employed by Organizasyon Zanmi Grandans, a non profit focused on the agricultural development of Grand'Anse province and specifically the Jeremie commune.
Wisly and his team run several tree nurseries, cultivate several hectares of land, and lead the efforts of a 250-farm pilot co-op called Fermes DuSable.
The farmers of the co-op are grouped geographically and structured to help each other till, sow, and yield the land in a sustainable and collective way that shares best practices and encourages planting with the future in mind.
“As in all business, start small so you can see what works.”
— Wisly Jasmin
Wisly's end goal is to help farmer's see that even little investments can produce huge benefits to farmers. For example, a single well-nourished pepper plant can produce $5 worth of peppers in a month's time.
Wisly wants to help farmers plant whole orchards and strategically organized farms where nitrogen-fixing legumes, vegetables, lime trees, and vertiver grasses create a fertile and reciprocal environment for nitrogen-taking breadfruit and moringa trees can grow year round.
